Re: Afraid and confused

Try to look at this way, your life may take a change in direction but we are always open to the next surprise waiting around a corner, it is part of life. eGFR is notorious for being prone to error, it neds several results trending in the same direction to have any real meaning. Try not to worry, th...

Re: New member introduction

Hi Tracieann, I usually think it through in this way - can I do/change anything by worrying? And of course the answer is no, so put it on the back burner until I have more facts. If you feel you must do something read the articles to found on this forums Home page https://www.kidneypatientguide.org....

Re: Big question

Hi Horus,
eGFR is notorious for being inaccurate, Creatinine, to some extent, is dependant on how much exercise you had a a day or so ago.
The numbers don't look bad, and worry is not going to solve anything.

Best wishes.

Re: Afraid and confused

Hi tracieann, I hope you told the Dr you changed your diet, doing things like that makes diagnosis much more difficult it is much better to only make changes you have discussed with the doctor. Generally speaking, in the UK diet will not make any significant difference to your kidneys, with the poss...

Re: I don’t know how to feel

Hi Nancy5312, If you have just been diagnosed with a kidney condition, it is normal to feel shocked and lost so you are not on your own. Have a look at the Home page of this website - https://www.kidneypatientguide.org.uk/ The articles on there should help you understand what is going on, and give y...

Re: Puzzling eGFR results

Hi Genevieve189,
Welcome to the forum.

eGFR is an estimate, and is notorious for its inaccuracy, it also sensitive to the amount you have eaten drunk that day.
It is best to consider trends rather than one reading on it's own.

Best wishes.

Re: suggestion... how about introducing ourselves??

Hi Linda68, Welcome to the forum. Dips in mood are common with kidney failure, along with weakening of muscles. I would think you are not far away from Dialysis, once your body adjusts to dialysis (1 to 2 months) you may well find an improvement in wellbeing. If you look on the KPG home page you wil...

Re: CKD - a book you found helpful?

Hi Genvevieve189, Assuming you are in the UK, the only dietary changes is to reduce your salt intake, you have probably done this to reduce your blood pressure, otherwise shifting toward the 5-a-day diet (five portions of fruit or veg each day look it up on the internet) will help your general healt...

Re: emotional help

Hi bhc962, Being diagnosed with any major illness is always a shock, denial in some form or another is not an uncommon initial reaction. I would suggest you both read through the articles here, https://www.kidneypatientguide.org.uk/ These are a reliable source, and should give you both some basic in...

Re: Vaccines for Covid 19

My wife and I had our Covid Jab on Sat, lots of people were given the same time on Sat afternoon, there was quite a queue outside in the cold for about half an hour. Not very good, a few just turned round, and went home.

Re: Fistula removal.

I think it works like this: First choice for a Fistula is the lower arm, this leaves the upper arm available for future use. If the lower arm blood vessels are not suitable then next choice is upper arm (in both cases the non dominant side) After that, the dominant side may be considered, if it not ...

Re: Vaccines for Covid 19

My GP surgery contacted my wife to arrange her Covid jab at another surgery in town, eventually they reluctantly added an appointment for me.
