Re: Hospital stay after transplant?
While everyone is individual I would say this. 99.9% chance you will be euphoric, well medicated for pain and eager to get up and about. Was sat out of bed morning after, was shuffling round by the following day. Find your own pace, plus a rolled up towel to help moving by holding over surgery site....

Re: How many have returned to work after transplant?
I had my TX on 14 December 2017. 9 weeks later I am thinking of going back. I have had a job offer. I am a professional and the work is desk based. I have been great for the last few weeks but the last couple of days have been sluggish. I intend to accept the offer and go back to work in March for ...

Re: Test To Donate to Husband - My Story
Seems to follow the same steps my donor had at Sheffield. Should be one final cross match to complete after the final tests (BP and scan) have been completed. For the stay in hospital go armed with things to do. Books, iPad with films, earplugs and eyemasks (wards can be busy during the night) My do...

Re: How long have you had your transplant?
Feb 18th will be 5 years. In the begining I just wanted to make a year, then two and so on. Now i have no expectations on how long this amazing journey will last. I try to stay healthy and fit, but most importantly spend time with my partner and our amazing daughter (born post TX) A list of goals or...

Maybe make contact with this group, they are all donors. Give you an idea on what happens and what impact it could have on your life. I have met some of the group and they are amazing people.
Best wishes

Yes. Anyone Living with a transplant patient gets the option for a free flu jab.
Partner and daughter both have theirs each year, get them the same time I do.

Re: Age 34 - GFR went from 71 to 47 - sudden drop in month
Is your gp concerned or treating your blood pressure? Getting your BP under control, a healthy diet and excercise(stay hydrated)will all help in the long term. You could ask for another opinion, maybe a GP with a better Renal background?

Re: Feeling Ill
I was diagnosed at 8%. So I think my body adjusted over time to reduced function, I never felt ill until I was diagnosed and told I had to start dialysis within weeks. Maybe knowing you have reduced function doesn’t help? But also anemia kicks in for people at different times. EPO And Iron helped me...

Re: Cycling and renal failure
It’s an hour before and after medication that I don’t eat. So it’s two hours without energy. Training during the winter on a smart trainer, so doing hours of grind during the two hour time unable to fuel should help train body to go hunting for fats to burn. Been looking at bonk training methods als...

Re: Cycling and renal failure
I've already experienced the dreaded 'bonk' recently for the first time and am very keen to avoid it again. It was interesting to see you said that I should stop every hour, that may be where I'm going wrong. I'm used to putting in 3hrs without stopping, but recently this has become far more diffic...

Re: Cycling and renal failure
Will keep an eye on this, I am not restricted on diet but get board of bars and gels when riding. Depending on requirements would these do? https://www.nugonutrition.com/dialysis-snack/ My main problem is that I have a fairly high dose of bisoprolol for blood pressure and as a beta blocker is stops ...

Re: Transplant booked!!!
How long you take is down to you. I work in an office and went back on a phased return to work as agreed between myself and HR. Slowly increasing from 8 hours a week to 38. The best part, phased return paid the full salary! It all also depends on your follow up appointments, these start at three hal...

Re: suggestion... how about introducing ourselves??
Hi I'm Colin from Retford UK I was diagnosed with CKD in 2010 & type 2 diabetes at the same time (probably the cause of my CKD) it was only found on pre-op tests following a motorcycle accident. In 2014 I had a tumour on my left kidney so that kidney was removed, the other one couldn't cope on ...
