Re: Hydration Testing
As I understand it, the urine colour test is only applicable to fully functional kidneys. In dehydration the skin is less flexible (hence the pinch test, the skin is slow to recover to its normal position), the pulse is fast and weak. Other effects are dizziness/light headed and the patient may be l...

Re: Getting a fistula!!
Just to add to the above, the ‘thrill’ is a buzzing feeling at or very near to the (new, made by the surgeon) junction between the artery and the vein. The operation is usually done with a local anaesthetic, can take up to 3 hrs but more usually 2 hrs, just boring laying there.

Re: anyone else read this in news today?
I wonder, did any of us who have been through the transplant ‘discussion’ get the feeling that a transplant was being sold to you. Not so much by the surgeon but the Transplant Liaison nurse/manager (or whatever her title). At the other end of the spectrum, I have seen a transplant team pressuring A...

Re: kidney removal and subsequent inability to have PD
Unfortunately, PKD does not progress in a liner fashion, in terms of blister growth it can lay dormant for years then suddenly put in a spurt of growth. Also the effect on kidney function is erratic as what happens mostly, is internal blister cause pressure on the tubules causing them to collapse th...

Re: Dehydration
Get some medical help on this now, ring your GP or consultant. Low BP on HD is a common problem but is usually corrected by taking a drink and, as you mention, reducing the rate/amount of water removed. The hot weather and the runs, both will make you lose water and will require an increase in intak...

Without knowing more about you, it is tricky making any further comment... Try reading the paragraph on this website about water intake. Should you decide to take some action while waiting for your appointment; you can monitor what you are doing by A] how your body feels/looks and B] weighing yourse...

Re: Push to see consultant
The water is a catch 22 situation, yes, more water may help to flush you out but without some medication to drive your kidneys you are more likely to retain the extra water with all the problems that go with that. Less water, I would not do that without medical advice it can be dangerous. If are goi...

Re: kidney removal and subsequent inability to have PD
From what I have learned as a patient. Any incision into the peritoneum weakens the muscle wall making the patient prone to hernias until fully healed. PD puts a load on the muscle from the inside so tends to highlight any weaknesses. I have no idea how long after an operation, if ever; the muscle r...

Re: Tired oh so Tired
With an eGFR of 10% I would have expected dialysis to have started but each case is different. With a neckline, the blood exchange rate tends to be much slower than a fistula. Fitting a neckline, just in case, is not done due to them being prone to infection where the line passes through the skin. A...

That sounds uncomfortable.
If your renal nurse cannot help, I would E-mail Baxter’s for answer.
Good Luck.

Re: Hydronephrosis in one kidney.
I would be go back to the GP to see what is going on about the renal appointment. As I understand it, the affected kidney will recover as long it is not subject to backed up urine for a long period, (several weeks) long-term exposure to these conditions may result in permanent damage. I would expect...
