Re: Chicken Pox Query and Hello from New Member!
Yea, i've only just seen this and it doesn't surprise me. I had chicken pox as a child, then a few years, 3? 4?, post tx got shingles, the grown up's version. It hurt. Also probs best to stay away from unvaccinated kids in case of measles etc. Hopefully there will be plenty more opportunities to see...

Re: CMV
Sarah, I had an outbreak of CMV in 1981, 6 weeks post transplant when i was your daughter's age. They didn't treat me then other than try and control my temperature, i assume because there were no drugs developed then. For what it's worth, once i was better, the Dr's said to me, that patients who ge...

Re: Evening Primrose Oil and Cod Liver Oil
The great thing about being transplanted and having a second go at life, is that i have been able to live these last 34 years to the max. That includes ignoring food fads! So no, none of that stuff. I find a few glasses of nice wine with fun and congenial people, that interest me and make me laugh, ...

I think I can already guess the answer to this but does anyone have any experience of obtaining some form of life insurance post transplant?
You've guessed right!
But others may have had more luck.

Re: Bone Density.
Soobee, Steroids were the anti-rejection drug of choice, along with azathiaprine, way back in the mists of time. Once you've been on them many years, and have a well working kidney, it seems best not to change. Theses days there appears to be a much wider, and better, selection of drugs to prevent r...

Re: Bone Density.
Yea, in about 2001,my GP noted that i had been on prednisolone for 20 years and asked if i'd had a bone scan. In the preceding three or four years i had broken, my ribs (each side), elbow and little finger. The TX unit had never suggested one, which in hindsight was clearly a mistake. I had one done...

Re: Guilt
As a 57 year old with a TX i recognise the lack of energy. You are getting older (sorry) and the cliche is that renal failure adds 30 years to your age. Ok, for the likes of you and me it's less, but still, we both feel older than our actual age. The fact that you feel guilt about the situation says...

Re: what Country do you come from
Agreed, it would be interesting to hear where people come from as the nature of the questions asked seems to be somewhat dependent on where the poster comes from. Thus the nature of the answer need to that into consideration.

interestingly, he was fit as a fiddle.. would dialysis cause a heart attack? I always presumed that someone relatively healthy (without any other underlying conditions) could survive on dialysis for a long time.. Jonah Lomu RIP
A great sportsman and by all accounts a real gent. Renal problems first diagnosed in 1996, focal glomerulonephritis, the same as myself. The big difference is, that he still played devastatingly for the All Backs for some years after! A TX in 2004, which was put under his rib cage to allow him to co...

Re: Flu Jab Immune Supressed ?
Grey, Back in the 80's flu jabs weren't as common as now. I got a severe dose of flu in 1989. I have rarely felt so ill. Sweating, shaking, fever. My bed sheets had to be changed every few hours because they were soaking from the sweat. I thought i might die and desperately wanted to be admitted to ...

Re: CMV virus seven months post TX
All our experiences are different but for what it's worth this is mine: CMV used to be called 40 day fever as it often hit 6 weeks after Tx. I had it, and i have never felt so ill in my life. I had a huge fever and was virtually delirious for about 3 days. I quite quickly recovered and my consultant...

Re: Skin Cancer and Imuno Drugs
Yea, i've been going for regular "mole hunts" for years now. A couple each of BCCs and SCCs but nothing too nasty yet. If you go to a dermatologist and tell them your immunosuppressed you will get the lecture which will include some, if not all of: Cover up, no sunbathing, not in sun betwe...
