Re: suggestion... how about introducing ourselves??
Hi Brianm501, Welcome to the forum. I have been on Haemodialysis for over 10 years now. It is not the big issue that some people think, it does take up time but soon becomes just part of your life. It is best to have Fistula prepared in advance of needing to start dialysis, it will take a few sessio...

Re: How do you increase weight with Kidney disease?
HI joeB7700, Some thoughts. Male adults require 60 - 80 grams of high grade protein (meat/fish) per day, this is needed to repair and replace cells etc. Kidneys are not usually painful unless they are infected (Bacterial or virus infection). High blood pressure is bad for healthy or un-heathy kidney...

Re: Daily headaches
Hi PotentialTerrace,
Whilst headaches are one of the side effects of kidney failure, I would not expect you to be having problems at your eGFR.
I would suggest you tell your GP about the headaches, they may be an indication of a different problem.
Best wishes

Re: Yoga/Pilates whilst on peritoneal dialysis
Hi,
Some patients who are on PD do get hernias due to the weight of the dialysate.

Re: Protein in urine
Hi Anni10,
I assume you meant leaking Protein rather than Urine.
Try not worry, if you are awaiting a visit to a consultant, you are moving in the right direction.
There several reasons why you could be leaking Protein without having Kidney failure.
Best wishes.

Re: My latest allergy - Tinzaparin!
Hi JMan, You are having a tough time at the moment, let's hope it is over. We have one or two nurses at our unit who think patients are just a hindrance and should not be allowed. In general, they don't understand dialysis and are frightened they are asked a question that highlights there ignorance....

Re: Taking its toll
Hi JMan, I think RiK has hit the nail on the head in his post above. We all know there tends to be drift towards depression, and all we can do is lookout for it. Muscle and joint pains is very common - the only think with that is keep moving as much as you can but don't hurt yourself. On the depress...

Re: Water Softener
Starting with hard water - hard water has large amounts of calcium carbonate dissolved in it, this prevents soaps and detergents working, and where the water is heated the calcium carbonate will come out of solution, deposit on the hot surface. Soft water - is water without the calcium carbonate dis...

Re: GPs no use
Hi tracieann, I think the problem is kidney problems are not easy to diagnose, most of the results are better looked at as trends rather than just isolated tests. Also there can be treatable reasons for changing results as well as permanent problems which will eventually lead to failure. So GP's ten...

If I remember right, Nitrofurantoin made me feel a bit sick but it cleared up the infection.
