Re: Cycling to lose PD weight
I am not sure cost of different dialysate (the stuff in the bags) is a major problem. Glucose solution, at one time, was the standard choice; alternatives were created partially due to the weight gain problem. In some areas this shows as, ‘we always use this’. Another thought, if cycling does not re...

Re: Baxter APD Last drain pain
Start by getting your wife to talk to her PD nurse, if the nurse does not have a remedy, move on to the nephrologists. As I understand it, the process should be pain free, some people do have some pain initially, but the issue can usually be resolved. The drain time is programmable (not by the users...

madonbrew,
If you trawl the internet, you well find lots of information on diabetic/kidney diets; I would start with the NKF site. I think/hope you may find knowledge is power, and the task is not as difficult as it at first appears.
Good luck.

Re: Cycling to lose PD weight
It sounds as though your PD bags contain glucose, there are alternatives, and it may be worth asking your nephrologists if the PD nurse cannot help. More information on the NKF website.
Keep up the exercise in any event.

Re: Sign of getting worse?
Further clarification, because the water looks to be getting very muddy. What matters is the amount of phosphate in the food being eaten/nibbled and how close you are to the upper limit for phosphate (normal is in the range 0.9 to 1.3 mmol/litre in renal failure the aim is to stay below 1.8 mmo/litr...

Re: Very Confused after Nephrectomy
Re-diet people in the UK do not usually have to reduce protein in their diet; it is an American problem where they eat far more protein than here. Salt, we as Mrs Wagolynn, a nurse (retired) does most of the cooking; we have not added any salt to food for years, food naturally has sufficient to supp...

Re: weight gain
Try looking up on the internet, Pitting Oedema; this should give you some background information. The test I mentioned is very simple, just press on the flesh above your ankle (say 30secs) then let go, and look to see if the resultant hollow disappears quickly. Should it take over, say, 30secs then ...

Re: Sign of getting worse?
Just to clarify the phosphate binders, if you eat, even a small amount, take a binder. It is very important to control the phosphate (and potassium) levels.

Re: do I change job.
I doubt you will damage the transplanted kidney by working (hard). What you describe sounds typical of the care sector. I would stick it out doing the job to the best of my ability whilst looking for another post. In most jobs, an applicant in work will always be preferred to one out of work. Good l...

Are you retaining water?
To test, press your thumb hard on your lower leg, the resultant indent should clear away in about 30-60 secs.
Forgive me, if I am teaching my granny to suck eggs...

Phosphates and Potassium levels, as far as how you feel, are the more relevant numbers in my opinion. If you read about them on the NKF, site and see what you think...

This website may answer some of your questions. http://www.renal.org/whatwedo/InformationResources/CKDeGUIDE/Stage3CKD.aspx In addition, the NKF website is another source of information. Re-diet, you certainly should be applying the general advice (and stopping smoking, if you do), as you should be ...

Re: Sign of getting worse?
It may be worth trying eating before you drink. My GP suggested this and it helped me... Apparently, liquid, on its own in the stomach promotes vomiting, if you already feel sick.
