Re: What Results Show in Your RPV?

At the risk of stating the b********g obvious, you do know that you can click on the numbered tabs on the Results page above your name? This gives access to the things you mention, none of which are on page 1. Each tab shows different results - ferritin and iron are on tab 5, for instance. Sorry if ...

Re: Update on me and my brother

My creatinine was 133 (eGFR 50) in December and it's now 126 (eGFR 53) which is fine. Tim's is now 139/46 (and pretty consistent) so he's close to me. Very nice post Mattew, so you have CKD also then, i am surprised they let you donate with a eGFR of just 50 thou ?, or am i missing something, take ...

Update on me and my brother

Hi all - time for an update on me and my brother after I donated to him last October. He had a biopsy in early May which showed no sign of rejection and he was then discharged by the consultant as "boring"! He's now back to the care of his local hospital; he's off the MMF and his Tac dose ...

Re: When does testing for a living donor start?

Testing multiple and fruitless live donors is expensive and therefore they are looking to keep control of such costs - some people would come forward with countless donors and want to pick 'the best' which is all very well if there were no limits on resources. For my brother I think they did tissue...

Re: When does testing for a living donor start?

The transplant people told me that they try to time it (assuming that they get enough notice) so that by the time you have a transplant you are just at the point where having dialysis would be a good idea. Given the standard time it takes to do the work up, that should be about 10-12 months before ...

Re: One Year Post Transplant

Well done; we passed our 100 day milestone recently and my brother says that he now feels "better than I have felt for I don't know how many years".

Re: Tacrolimus and Rejection

Thanks Mandy and MidgeMan. That's very helpful. Currently it is not good as my brother's hospital ( not St George's where the op took place) have been really messing him around with some absolutely useless medical decisions and cr@p nursing care. For some days last week they had him at Tac of 15-17 ...

Tacrolimus and Rejection

My brother is having a tough time; he got a throat infection before Christmas and antibiotics didn't fix it. Eventually they said it was glandular fever, so they had him in to reduce his Tac and try more antibiotics. The infection has now gone but his creatinine is all over the place and they keep c...

Re: struggleing to find diagnosis even with biopsy!

what started me to worry from the start was, when i seen the following, NICE does say, if gfr drops by more than 5 in 1 year or 10 in 5 years there is a real concern and should be investigated, thx again people. But as wagolyn says above, eGFR is an estimate, not an accurate figure, so you would wa...

Re: struggleing to find diagnosis even with biopsy!

doctor initially told me that >60 was within normal range, but it aint really is it, as a gfr of 60 is 40% kidney loss. Not really; just because eGFR is less than 100 does not necessarily mean that you are ill at all. You might find this website helpful: http://www.renal.org/information-resources/t...

Re: Living Donor time scales etc

Hi Ste I agree with Joe above - it will take months to do the donor tests (see my blog below). There are so many things to be checked and they will want to be sure that they won't be at risk of actually harming your sister. With an eGFR of 6, I'm surprised you are not on dialysis already - I donated...

Re: Dip in eGFR after transplant?

I would agree with Mandy. My brother does not contribute on here but he had the same sort of issue. It took about six weeks before his creatinine and Tacrolimus dose had any sort of agreement. In that time his creatinine went back up to 170-odd (and he had a biopsy) after being 142 soon after the op...

Re: waiting time for live donor transplant

Martin You don't say how far through the testing your wife is - is she finished (up to the point to which they go until a date is fixed)? I reckon the elapsed testing time was about seven months in my case, but there were gaps in the middle as they didn't think that my brother was ill enough to be s...

Re: Tissue type match

Speaking from my recent experience, I wouldn't say that blood group O is a problem as has been implied, as it is reckoned to be in 44% of the UK population (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_type_distribution_by_country) which is pretty high, so there should be lots out there. (NB I was told that f...
