Living Donor - Recipient processes
Hey :D Anyone know of any resources that I can look at to see what the process is for recipients in a Living Donor scenario? There seems to be quite a bit of info out there for potential donors, and for cadaveric donor recipients, but not much for people who may get a living donor tx, which seems od...

Can you not ask for some help in the meantime? Three months seems an awful long time to wait! I was started on iron infusions in January when my Cret. was only about 230 (eGFR was 18 then i think) because I felt so tired and awful and it did help a bit, and then last month I was put on EPO to try an...

can anyone guess how long I have left before dialysis? Short answer is no, I'm afraid. Much as we'd all like to plan for that day, we simply don't know and there's no magic formula for working out the date either. I'd say just get on with life as if you don't need to worry about it and keep healthy...

Agree - mine can vary enormously depending on activity, time of day and how long I've been sat waiting in clinic ;) My doc recommended I get a home BP monitor and check it once a week or so, and gave me a target number (120/75) which I'm happy to say I've been close to for quite a while now. Checkin...

Sounds all a bit new age to me.... :? I reckon the advice is the same as always - eat a healthy, balanced diet, within the confines of whatever restrictions your doctors tell you. I doubt it matters much if your fruit n veg was mass produced or organic; there's precious little (if any) evidence that...

Hey Aileen I haven't had the fistula op yet - I'm going in to see the surgeon to discuss it in two week's time. I was a bit surprised too, to be honest. My neph. suggested we consider it at my last appointment. My eGFR has been on a gentle downward trend for a while (from 20 in January to 14 last mo...

Wow - I agree that all sounds a bit sudden! 3 months between appointments does seem quite a long time. As you know I'm at a similar stage to you, and I've been going back to the clinic every six weeks recently for bloods and to see my neph. I'm sure Helen's right in that they do all talk to each oth...

Agree entirely with what you've said, Andy. I've always thought the one thing that could and should be changed is the issue of family involvement. If the person has signed the National Organ Donor Register, then I don't understand why the relatives still get asked permission for the donation to take...

Sorry to hear your doctor wasn't very helpful on the BP drugs front - I had exactly the same experience on Amlodipine (it manifested most while I was at the Glastonbury Festival, which was nice!), terribly swollen ankles. I took myself off the drug and went back to my GP. After trying various other ...
