Re: Coronavirus

Dean, You have done so well. It must be so much more difficult with small children. I have to admit I gave in weeks ago. Working on the theory that there is less virus than there was and that virus is killed by uv light (in 8 minutes in Spanish sunlight), I have ventured to areas where And when I am...

Re: Coronavirus

News from Kidney Care UK Today: “ If you have been advised to shield and are in England and Wales you should receive a letter by June 15 about future plans for shielding. We are seeking confirmation that this is the same for Northern Ireland and Scotland.” Baring in mind the fiasco in March when we ...

Re: Coronavirus

Not sure what anyone can do. Until we get a vaccine or a cure we are a bit stuck. As already said there are so many unanswered questions. A second wave seems inevitable as everyone goes mad meeting up and going out. I had predicted in the autumn but seeing those scenes on TV it may be sooner. I thin...

Re: Coronavirus

The second letter is a copy of the first letter but from a different sender. One is from your GP and the other either from your hospital or NHS England. It’s due to the mess they made in sending out the original letters. A bit of a catch up to make sure everyone received a letter. As a result some p...

Re: Coronavirus

Jooles, I know just what you mean about the excitement from a Sainsbury delivery. I tried buying other stuff on line but ran into a problem when I realised I couldn’t go to the post office to return it. Just been looking at the kidney care website. They are saying that shielding is currently advised...

Re: Coronavirus

Hi Jooles, Not seen anything official. Just in newspapers and TV about continuing isolation for “vulnerable “ people. Unfortunately solid organ transplant patients and dialysis patients have been classed as severely vulnerable. I can’t see our vulnerability changing just because lockdown is easing. ...

Re: Coronavirus

I have removed my previous post. I think the figures applied to “hospitalised patients” which is not helpful.
Sorry about that.

Has anyone heard any different figures?

Re: Coronavirus

Hope everyone is well and coping with isolation/ shielding. I just wondered how others are coping with the thought of having to remain in isolation while the rest of the world goes back to a new normal? While we are all in this together I feel I can cope. At first it will be ok but when they say it ...

Re: Coronavirus

Wagolyn,

Dialysis patients have just been added to the government list of “extremely vulnerable “ people. - as of Friday I think. Give it a few more days for the form to be updated on the government web site and try again.

Good luck
Stay safe

Re: Coronavirus

Still no letter - BUT have now had communication from local supermarket (Sainsbury’s) saying they have heard I am vulnerable and offering home delivery slots.
Phew.. problem solved.

Re: Coronavirus

5 years post transplant and I’ve still not received the letter. Have been shielding for the past 2 weeks. GP not interested. Too busy and too many staff off to be fair. Contacted renal unit they just said to register on government site. I had already done that. I understand that there has been furth...

Re: Coronavirus

I haven’t had the letter yet either. I have looked at the website so I know what it will say. I wanted to receive the letter to be sure I was registered as vulnerable. (I know I am post transplant I suspect having being registered may help n the coming weeks).I can then register on the government we...

Re: Coronavirus

Anyone heard anything from their units yet?

Thumps - sorry I can’t find that article again. I think it was in a “Lancet” article as a case review.

Re: Coronavirus

Wagolyn, I beg to differ about the alcohol hand rub (non alcohol hand sanitiser is ineffective) but fully agree about hand washing and calling 111. I am curious about how great our risks are, being immunosuppressed or on dialysis, if we catch it. There is nothing we can particularly do. A search of ...

Re: Coronavirus

I agree with Thumps. Feeling so well with my transplant I forget I am in a high risk group. However Having being a dialysis and transplant patient I am an expert at hand washing (20 seconds is nothing after the 2minutes for dialysis) and I can’t walk past hand sanitiser without having a squirt. On t...
