Re: Pregnancy with a transplant

I've known two ladies who, post transplant, have become pregnant and given birth.

Both they, and their children are fine.

If you feel up to it, you gotta go for it haven't you?

Best of luck whatever you decide.

Re: CMV ?

All i can say is that CMV used to be known as "40 day fever" and i got it, or a flare up, about 6 weeks post transplant. Never have i had such a fever, i felt like John Mills in one of those old war films set in the jungle where he wants to sacrifice himself for the others. My Dad walked i...

Re: Sun exposuure after translant

Yea, azathioprine is one of the drugs that causes the problems. I've been going to dermatologists for 30 years now and every time i get a new one, i get the "lecture", no sunbathing, cover up, factor 50 UVA and UVB etc etc After a while, it's loads of fun to look them straight in the eye a...

Re: Transplant chat clinic

I had my kidney when I was 11. I am 52 now. The donor was a 16 year old French girl who sadly died in a motorcycling accident. I often think of her and it feels strange to think there is a small part of her still living on in me. My consultant says my kidney has lasted so long because I have looked...

Re: Post transplant shape

You will always, inevitably, have a slightly different shape where the kidney is.

If you are on steroids, you will also have a slight tummy. It will go down a bit as your dose comes down, but unfortunately it will always be there a little.

Re: Going to the dentist

A possible tip to save money, but NOT time! There are 18 Dental Schools in the UK, they all need patients to practice on. When i lived near Guy's i went there. It takes longer,as the students who practice on you are extremely careful, but they are fully supervised. The quality of the work is excelle...

Re: Top Tips for those going in to have a tx

Does anyone have any experience of having their transplant at Guys Hosp, Richard Bright Ward? Iv had 5 or 6 unsuccessful calls now where I have had to go in a wait around for a few hours and just wondered on other people's experience here once the transplant actually goes ahead. When i was done, i ...

Re: Worried about transmitting warts to new baby.

An exciting time! But mine said that in transplant patients they pretty much give up on warts and verrucae. And I have to say all attempts at having them frozen off have failed for me. Yea, i've had warts/veruccas since 1985. I've certainly never passed them on to either my wife or children and, my...

Coke is very high is phosphates. If your levels are fine, then it's not an issue, but bear it in mind. Is it??????? I must stop sniffing it off hookers stomachs...... Sorry, must have written that whilst dreaming, back in the room now. :D :D :D I drink "generously", did ...

Re: SCC Cancer and transplant.

Grey, I'm no doctor but have been transplanted and had a couple of SCC's. My dermatologist said that in normal healthy people they aren't very serious. When immunosuppressed there is a small chance that they can return many years later and be malignant. This meant that they"scraped" mine o...

Wilcock,

Not ranting at all.

Your unit seems pretty inflexible, such a shame.

Hope you eventually get the result you want.

Re: How often do you see your consultant?

Wilcock, Why not insist that they allow you to do that. After all, they work for you, not the other way round. Do the annual review with them. The other times get your bloods, weight etc done locally and send them. If anything comes up those other times, you can always go and see them at that point....

Re: How often do you see your consultant?

I've been transplanted a while now and i only see my Consultant once a year. Mainly to check he's ok, not put on weight, that he's given up smoking, getting exercise, not working too hard etc etc :D :D :D He doesn't always live up to expectations, so i have to put him right occasionally. C
