Re: Top Tips for those going in to have a tx

You will have to drink lots after the TX. Squash is good, but don't make my mistake and take a full fruit / full sugar one -it sent glucose levels too high. Use a "no added sugar" one, such as many by Robinsons.

Re: owning a pet post transplant

Hi I had a transplant last year. I was told all the stuff about not handling animals unless great care is taken, but as the owner of a cat and a dog, and a keen gardener, I asked if this was really a serious issue, or whether the hospital was just being ultra cautious. The answer was that it is thei...

Re: Local govt. sickness pay

Hi, Interesting question! I had a transplant a year ago whilst working for a local authority in a small department. Never had dialysis, but before transplant had to have quite a bit of time off for tests and problems with anaemia. I found that the rules are vague on the detail of this sort of thing,...

Re: transplant 1 week today - eek!!

Hi and Good luck! As others have said, the waiting is the worst bit. Once you're on the way to the hospital then you just want to get on with it. I received a transplant, donated by my wife, a year ago, and once you get over the anaesthetic and get home then you feel better quickly. She was home in ...

However,I did experience the tiredness that is common after many big operations, and was careful to take the first couple of weeks easy -a phased ret...

Re: Transplant

Good luck! I had my transplant a year ago at Bristol, and I too felt excited - I just wanted to get on with it. I found I recovered quite quickly, sitting in a chair the next day, and enjoying food. Home in six days, and then a gentle recovery -it'll take a few weeks before you get your strength bac...

Re: time until able to drive post transplant

Hi I had a transplant May 2011, the kidney being donated by my wife. She had keyhole surgery, and was able to drive after about four weeks. I was a couple of weeks behind. The cushion /towel under the seatbelt seemed a good idea, although whether it actually makes a difference or simply provides rea...
