Re: Pet home remedies for IgAN? Thoughts on root causes?
Amended my top suggestions (the first post in this thread) after experiencing IgAN flareup twice in two days. I had gluten containing breads each time, which may have been slightly off (one was a 'sprouted bread' health-food left in fridge too long; the second was a sourdough I fermented myself). In...

Re: Pet home remedies for IgAN? Thoughts on root causes?
Thanks Wagolynn.. yes, fish oil, salt (especially in ready-to-eat food) and exercise are good ideas. Also, checking Vitamin D levels and getting enough sunlight. Exercise will also reduce BP, nothing drastic, say a 20 min brisk walk 4 or more times a week, if you can walk and talk then that is not b...

Re: Pet home remedies for IgAN? Thoughts on root causes?
I suppose the medical fraternity are just dumb... No - it's a complex disease. The docs who help me don't have a handle on root cause. I'm struggling with getting my blood pressure under control so I'm sharing what seems to work. Fish oil is also apparently very good for BP. I had some in the past ...

Pet home remedies for IgAN? Thoughts on root causes?
Hello -- I wanted a little discussion on thoughts about the root causes of IgA Nephropathy? Also, any thoughts on home remedies or personal tips to manage it? I'll start ... Pet tips : April 2020: twice in two days, I had gluten products. On both days, my BP flared up, and I saw protein in my urine ...

Re: Standard of care for "suspected" IgAN?
Thanks Johnylefox and Wagolynn. Regarding an IgAN cure, I've been doing some reading. Some doctors use steroid pulse therapy to manage decline (it stops excess IgA production). The most promising research seems to be IgA protease (which breaks apart the IgA molecule - it can even reverse IgAN deposi...

Standard of care for "suspected" IgAN?
Hello - I wanted to ask: what is the standard of care when IgA Nephropathy is suspected a long time (4 years in my case), but kidney damage is not apparent? I'm a male in my 40s in Sydney, Australia. Nephrologists began managing me for suspected IgAN four years ago. But managing blood pressure is al...

Does a cold/flu with IgAN drop blood pressure temporarily?
Hello - I have suspected IgAN, and had a cold/flu recently. I noticed something interesting. I had a lot of green mucus formation on a single night. The next day, I noticed a drop in my normally high blood pressure readings (from 135/95 to 115/75). It went back up soon after. Could having a cold or ...

Re: Hot gargles with activated charcoal - can it help with I
Charcoal can absorb medications. Yes, if you swallow it. But since this is a gargle, you're spitting the charcoal back out. That means if someone had a topical medication (a coating) applied to their throat or nasal passages, charcoal will absorb that. But if medication is swallowed (ie tablets), t...

A word of caution
A word of caution: do this intermittently. I was doing charcoal gargles for a couple of days. I combined it with tried nasal irrigation with active charcoal ('jal neti', with those little 'neti' pots). Then I went out poorly clad to the pub, and caught a throat cold. I think removing mucus mechanica...

Re: Hypertension: what do YOU think causes it?
Hypertension in the context of kidney disease? It's really hard to say for sure. I've heard "hypertension is a kidney disease" - blood pressure is basically controlled by the kidneys. If kidneys are damaged by kidney disease, blood pressure usually goes up. Why I am not sure. They say rena...

Hot gargles with activated charcoal - can it help with IgAN?
Hello everyone! My nephrologist suspects I have IgA Nephropathy (IgAN). I've also had difficulty breathing for almost four decades ('opacified sinuses', 'post-nasal drip'). Recently, I've been trying something different -- hot water gargles with activated charcoal (like a salt-water gargle, but with...
