BEAM
If anyone feels like having a go at some online Pilates/ yoga/ resistance training sessions kidney research are offering them free to kidney patients until November. They have called the site kidney Beam. I’ve started to exercise again after a transplant in February. The site was recommended by my n...

Re: Test To Donate to Husband - My Story
That's wonderful news Emma. My brother is in the process of being tested to determine whether he is fit enough to donate to me so fingers crossed. All the best to you both. Keep us informed.

I take a medication called Cinacalcet to lower my PTH. It seems to be working well for me at the moment.

Re: Yoga/Pilates whilst on peritoneal dialysis
It's not the haemodialysis itself that bothers me Wagolynn. It's more that after much consideration, I have come to the conclusion that peritoneal dialysis suits me better and also, having recently gone through the surgery to place the PD catheter, the thought of having to have the PD catheter remov...

Re: Yoga/Pilates whilst on peritoneal dialysis
Thanks for taking the time to give advice JMan and Wagolynn. Much appreciated. The idea that I might have to change to haemodialysis is making me think twice. I think asking the Consultant is a good idea. Why didn't I think of that? Must be brain fog. I have an appointment on the 9th April so I'll a...

Yoga/Pilates whilst on peritoneal dialysis
I have been given conflicting advice from the PD nurses on my unit. One says it is absolutely fine for me to start doing yoga and Pilates again now and another has said no way should I be doing either of these whilst I have a PD catheter. This is confusing and I'm not sure who is correct. I'd be int...

Re: Starting PD
Thank you John. I started CAPD on the 28th February and it all seemed to be going well until I noticed a hard swelling in my stomach. This turned out to be a leak of fluid so I've had to stop dialysis until this heals. On the plus side , I'm getting a break from exchanges three times a day for a whi...

Re: How long have you had your transplant?
No secret I'm afraid. Just extreme good fortune. As I was only 11 at the time of the transplant and it never occurred to me to allow it to influence my life choices. I have always exercised, eaten healthily and got on with my life like everyone else. The majority of people I know /knew never even kn...

Re: How long have you had your transplant?
Thank you Amanda. It was a steady decline. Basically the kidney got past its prime. I certainly feel I've had my money's worth though.

Re: How long have you had your transplant?
Had mine for 43 years. Sadly it has finally given up the ghost and I have had my first day of training for PD today. Luckily this went well and paracetamol seemed to control the 'drain pain'. I'm now waiting (not so patiently) for kidney number 2 to turn up.

transplant call
Looking back at posts from those of you lucky enough to have received a deceased donor kidney, it seems that most people get 'the call' in the early hours of the morning? Is this generally the case?
