Smiths Crisps
Hi, I know, when on dialysis we should not be eating Potato Crisps but something with a crunch has great appeal, and I could reduce the Potassium intake elsewhere. Smiths crisps were salt free, the salt was in the blue paper right? Not now Walkers (the owner of the Smiths brand) have started to add ...

Taste and Digestion
Hi, I have a problem to do with food, taste and digestion. First a bit of context. I am 84, I started dialysing at age 70, we ate well, if not five a day then certainly four, low salt (salt replaced with pepper and or herbs). Prior to dialysis I had a couple of heart attacks, the last one resulted i...

Re: Patient Sustainability Poster
Hi JMan, What is needed is the government to take action on sustainable packaging, stick or carrot however it is achieved doesn't matter, there are other means of packaging available all they need is a demand to justify setting up manufacturing. Patients own blankets - I think about the infection ri...

Re: Kidney disease: A UK public health emergency - Kidney Research UK
Hi JMan, Thank you for drawing our attention to the report, it makes grim reading. Unfortunately, Kidney failure is not 'sexy', so the media does not make any comments about it. And, without media comment government will not pay attention. On my more depressed days, I do wonder if we have evolved a ...

Re: Having either a Sigmoidoscopy or a Colonoscopy
Hi Chris In Trowbridge, Rather than worrying, ring whoever ordered the investigation to make sure they are aware of your Kidney condition. Failing that, ring your GP or Kidney Consultant and check with them. If you leave it until later you are just going to keep worrying, and that will get worse day...

Re: New to forum
Hi Kaz,
Just one more thought, I should have included it in my last effort.
Before going to appointments, make a list of any questions you have, we all tend to forget some until afterwards...

Re: Possible forum downtime
Sorry I missed your reply Skm. I have been having a bumpy ride for a while but I am 84 now so I suppose it is to be expected, I have been dialysing about 14 years now. Just recently the forum was not wanting me around when I could, anyway the administrator has fixed that now (Thank you administrator...

Re: End of the analogue landline
The changes are for land lines, I think this will explain it all.

Re: Possible forum downtime
Keep up the good work.
Why do I think of Monty Python when anyone mentions Spam?
Actually, I used to like Spam, goes well in sandwiches, fried or fried in batter, boiled Spam was not a success, Spam (chopped) stew works but cook the vegetables first adding the Spam late on.
Have I left any out?

Re: Covid continues to loiter
Hi All, I have had my jabs Monday this week, I live in a care home so it took a lot of reminding them the whole of the residents are vulnerable! I had a some trouble with the nurse doing them, she wanted to use my fistula arm (left) eventually she shifted to the right arm. I have arthritis in that s...

Re: Claiming benefits
Just finished claim for Attendance Allowance, I think the form is around 35 pages! I gathered, from another patient they were getting this benefit, we will have to see how it pans out. Dialysis is one of the examples on the form but I have other problems as well. The form is available at https://www...

Re: Why do long term grafts fail?
Hi Thumps, I must admit I don't know of a single answer to this, I wondered if Ai Chat could produce an answer that covered all bases, this is what it produced. "There are several reasons why long term kidney grafts eventually fail: 1. Chronic rejection: Despite being matched for a successful t...
